Lore & Background

Teclis operates as the primary magical advisor and protector for the Emperor of the fractured Empire. When Heinrich Voss accuses the player character of cursing the Emperor in Nuln, Teclis steps in to prevent a miscarriage of justice that could destabilize the realm further. He demonstrates deep knowledge of Chaos cults, specifically identifying Friedrich Kessler's group as servants of Nurgle. His strategic mind is evident when he dispatches the player to Praag upon learning of Uthgrim Redaxe's rise, utilizing a magical waystone to transport himself, Voss, and the hero to the outskirts of the fallen city. Teclis also correctly deduces that Helspeth Bale used the player as a pawn to eliminate her rivals among the Chaos champions.

In Their Own Story

The crisis began in Magnus' tower in Nuln when a Chaos sorceress cursed the Emperor. Accused by Heinrich Voss, the player was saved only by Teclis's intervention. Fearing the Empire would collapse if Magnus died, the High Loremaster sent the hero into Nuln's sewers to hunt a Nurgle cult led by Friedrich Kessler. After Kessler sacrificed himself to summon a Great Unclean One, Voss reported that Uthgrim Redaxe had surfaced in Praag. Teclis used a magical waystone to teleport the group there, where they found Redaxe had fled to summon a Bloodthirster. Later, after defeating the Keeper of Secrets in Norsca, Teclis realized Helspeth Bale had collected the artifacts of Kessler, Redaxe, and Vigrun. He then dispatched the player into Tzeentch's domain within the Realms of Chaos to confront the sorceress in her fortress guarded by Axarath the Desecrator.

Reader's Guide

Teclis is a central NPC who drives the main campaign of Warhammer: Chaosbane, providing critical plot advancement and magical support. He is essential for progressing from Nuln to Praag via the magical waystone and later guides the player into the Realms of Chaos. His role involves identifying threats, such as recognizing Helspeth's deception after the defeat of Vigrun Skraeling. Teclis also tasks the player with specific objectives, like finding scrolls from Usirian's temple and an amulet from Djaf's priest in the Tomb Kings DLC to weaken Nebmakhet. While he does not appear in The Forges of Nuln DLC, his earlier actions set the stage for the Empire's survival against Chaos.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Teclis?

Teclis is the High Loremaster of Hoeth, the supreme archmage of the Aiel (High Elves) and the most powerful spellcaster in their pantheon. He serves as the living authority on the Order of Magic and the ultimate strategic asset of High Elf civilization.

What role does Teclis play in the War of the Sphere?

During the Great War Against Chaos, Teclis was one of the principal forces that helped drive the Chaos incursion back from the mortal world. His direct intervention in that conflict is widely credited as the turning point that saved the realm from annihilation.

How does Teclis relate to the Empire of Man?

Though a High Elf, Teclis has crossed into human affairs on more than one occasion, most notably acting as Emperor Magnus the Pious's chief ally in Warhammer: Chaosbane. In that game he intervenes to spare the player character from execution and then directs the hunt against Chaos cults operating in Nuln.

Why is Teclis considered so important in High Elf lore?

He represents the absolute pinnacle of Aiel magical knowledge and is the final word on all matters of sorcery within their society. When the High Elves face a threat that outstrips their own resources, Teclis is the figure they turn to because no one else commands comparable power or insight.

What is Teclis's status in the current timeline?

Two hundred years after the War of the Sphere, Teclis remains active and continues to operate as a strategic power, often working from the margins of High Elf politics rather than at its center. His willingness to step into human affairs during Chaosbane shows he still intervenes whenever the broader balance of the world is at risk.
