Wood Elf Glade Guard

Silent shadows of the forest, striking before they are seen.

The Glade Guard are the disciplined core infantry of the Wood Elves, serving as the primary defenders of Athel Loren. Unlike traditional armies that rely on heavy armor and shield walls, these warriors excel at skirmishing within the dense canopy of their home forest.

Lore & Background

Their existence is defined by a singular purpose: protection of the Glade from corruption and intrusion. They harbor no love for civilization outside their borders, viewing most races as potential threats to the natural order. While they rarely march out to conquer distant lands, any army foolish enough to enter Athel Loren faces an endless barrage of arrows from unseen hands until victory or death.

In Their Own Story

The human scout stepped onto the mossy path, his boot sinking slightly into the soft earth. He heard nothing but the wind in the leaves above. Then, a sound like a sigh cut through the air. Three arrows struck the ground at his feet simultaneously, vibrating with warning. Before he could turn to run, the shadows behind him shifted, and the forest claimed another trespasser.

Reader's Guide

The Asrai prioritize the survival of Athel Loren above all else. Their philosophy centers on stealth, patience, and ruthless efficiency against intruders who threaten the forest's sanctity. Glade Guard serve as the primary infantry, acting as skirmishers rather than a traditional shield wall. They utilize their superior speed to harass enemies before vanishing back into the foliage. Leadership falls to Glade Lords or Wardens of the Forest, who command specific territories within the woods. These leaders are often ancient and deeply attuned to the magic of the trees themselves. While they rarely seek war beyond their borders, they will annihilate any force that enters without permission. They view the forest as a living entity that must be defended at all costs. Relationships with other factions are defined by suspicion and hostility. The Wood Elves hold an eternal hatred for the Dark Elves of Naggaroth due to ancient betrayals involving historical conflicts over magic and land. They view humans as reckless destroyers who burn forests for profit, though some cautious trade exists on the fringes. Chaos is seen as an abomination that must be purged immediately upon detection.
